The Ikwerre Local Government Secretariat in Rivers State has been set on fire by suspected thugs.
A video of the burning building went viral on social media on Monday.
The burning of the Ikwere local government secretariat follows the earlier reports that a section of the Eleme Local Government Council secretariat in Rivers State was also set on fire.
Naija News reports that the incident occurred just days after the Rivers Local Government Elections, in which the Action Peoples Party (APP) won most seats.
Meanwhile, a former Commissioner for Information in Rivers State, Austin Tam-George, has levelled serious accusations against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, claiming that he is attempting to destabilize the state.
Rivers State has been in the news for several months, with heightened tensions in recent weeks leading up to the local government elections.
The ongoing power struggle between Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, and the current Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has intensified political discourse and captured public attention.
Tam-George contends that Wike is engaging in activities aimed at creating instability in Rivers State, further complicating the already contentious relationship between the two political figures.
He alleges that Wike’s actions are not only detrimental to the current administration but also threaten the overall peace and security of the state.
The former commissioner, who served under Wike’s administration, said on Channels Television, “I’m very disappointed in what the minister is doing. He’s the one orchestrating this. He’s the one who has set forth a process to destabilise the state.
“I was commissioner for information in the previous administration and so I’m highly disappointed in the minister. What I expected him to do was to, you know, focus on his mandate.”
