Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to the tragic boat accident in Niger State.
Naija News reported that at least 150 passengers are believed to be missing following a recent boat accident in the Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The boat transporting over 300 individuals, predominantly women and children, capsized during a journey to celebrate Maulid on Tuesday.
In a statement via X on Friday, Atiku expressed sadness over the incident which happened at night and posed a challenge on the rescue operations.
Atiku also prayed for the quick recovery of those receiving treatment and the departed souls to find rest.
He said, “I am profoundly heartbroken by the tragic boat disaster that unfolded late Tuesday night in the Mokwa region of Niger State, claiming the precious lives of many.
“It is particularly harrowing that this calamity occurred in the shroud of night, complicating the already challenging rescue operations.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated local authorities and tireless volunteers who have risen to the occasion, valiantly engaging in the search and rescue efforts throughout the dark hours as first responders.
“In this time of immense sorrow, I share in the grief of the bereaved families and stand in solidarity with the government and people of Niger State as they navigate this unfathomable tragedy.
To all those receiving treatment, I fervently wish for their swift recovery while offering prayers for the departed souls that they may find eternal peace.”
