Burkina Faso are the first country to secure their spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco after defeating Burundi 2-0 on Sunday, October 13.

Former Aston Villa forward Bertrand Traore and Saudi Arabia-based Mohamed Konate were the stars of the 2025 AFCON qualifying match for Burkina Faso.

Traore, now with Ajax, came off the bench to convert a penalty four minutes into added time, securing the victory for the Stallions.

The national team, under the guidance of coach Brama Traore, has secured their place in the finals after a draw with Senegal, a win over Malawi, and two victories against Burundi.

With 10 points, Burkina Faso has secured their 14th AFCON appearance and will be looking to make an impact in Morocco next year.

This marks Burkina Faso’s impressive comeback after their last-16 exit in the 2023 AFCON hosted in Ivory Coast from January to February 2024.

Note that Burundi hosted Burkina Faso and their other 2025 AFCON qualification home games in Ivory Coast due to the lack of international-standard stadiums in both countries.

Even though Burkina Faso have sealed their place in the 2025 AFCON, they still have two more qualification games to play in Group L. They have a date with second-placed Senegal on November 11 and a match against Malawi on November 19.
