Tensions flared early Sunday morning as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Dennis Idahosa, the running mate of gubernatorial candidate Monday Okpebholo, staged a protest demanding the exit of Governor Godwin Obaseki from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) premises.

The protest erupted around 3:30 a.m. as Idahosa vocally criticized Obaseki’s presence at the INEC office, stating, “Obaseki must come out. He is not supposed to be here. He is not an INEC staff. Nigeria Police should not compromise.”

The demonstrators expressed their belief that the governor had no business being on-site during the election result collation.

Despite their fervent calls for Obaseki to leave, the protesters faced resistance as they attempted to gain access to the INEC premises. Security personnel effectively barricaded the entrance, preventing the crowd from forcing their way inside.

The situation escalated when Frank Mba, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) overseeing the election, arrived at the scene.

Mba quickly made his way to the area where Obaseki was seated, signalling an attempt to address the growing unrest.

Naija News had earlier reported that Obaseki was excused from the premises by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
