No fewer than 100 people have been reportedly abducted following a coordinated attack by suspected terrorists on seven villages in the Wanke district of Gusau Local Government Area (LGA), Zamfara State.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers, armed with sophisticated firearms, stormed the communities on motorbikes on Tuesday, firing sporadically before seizing residents and taking them captive.

Among those reportedly abducted is a chief imam who had recently been released from captivity by bandits.

A survivor of the assault recounted that the affected communities remain under siege, with many residents fleeing their homes out of fear of subsequent attacks.

“The situation is dire. Over 50 people were taken near Sabon Layi, and another 50 were abducted from the vicinity of Dogon Hayi,” the survivor told Channels TV.

He added that locals are still accounting for the missing as panic and confusion continue to grip the area. “People are terrified and scrambling for safety,” he noted.

“The terrorists chased people like animals,” he said.

According to the survivor, the attackers pursued people on motorbikes tracked women to their homes, while others attempting to flee were intercepted and herded into the bushes.

The terrorists also stole motorcycles, farm produce, mobile phones, and ransacked shops.

The survivor added, “Officials at Wanke have been informed, but no action has been taken so far.

“We are faced with this calamity and had to leave. There are no animals left here.

“When night falls, everyone is on edge; staying in the communities has become extremely dangerous.”
