The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has charged the graduating cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) to prepare themselves for the demands of defending the nation.
The CAS emphasized that the expectations of the Armed Forces are high, and these cadets must rise to the challenge of tackling the country’s contemporary security issues.
Air Marshal Abubakar delivered this message during the NDA 2024 ‘Beating of the Retreat’ and Prize Giving Ceremony held on Wednesday, 18th September, at the NDA Parade Ground in Afaka.
The event celebrated cadets from the 71 Regular Course and the Direct Short Service Courses 28 Army and 32 Air Force.
The CAS urged the cadets to not only exhibit courage on the battlefield but also master modern tools and technologies shaping the landscape of warfare today.
He reminded them that the military has invested considerable resources in their training, including both their character development and their academic foundation, to ensure they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
“As you prepare to be commissioned as officers, remember that the hopes and aspirations of our country rest on your shoulders. Therefore, it is time to ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.” The CAS noted.
He called on the cadets to shift their mindset to focus on what they can contribute to their country, reinforcing the ideals of integrity, loyalty, and courage.
In his concluding remarks, Air Marshal Abubakar praised the Commandant and staff of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) for preserving the long-standing tradition of the Beating of the Retreat, marking the conclusion of the training year.
He extended his congratulations to the award-winning cadets and battalions, encouraging them to maintain their pursuit of excellence.
The Chief of Air Staff also emphasized the significance of integrity, loyalty, and courage in their future service to the nation.
