We Have Tinubu's Mandate To Ensure Free, Fair Election In Edo - CDS

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has assured Edo citizens that Saturday’s governorship election would be free and fair.

General Christopher Musa said President Bola Tinubu has given security agencies a mandate to ensure that the people of the state choose their next governor.

General Musa stated this on Wednesday as he paid a visit to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki. He noted that elections should not be seen as war.

He advised politicians to play politics in line with the rule and respect the right of citizens to elect candidates of their choice.

We have seen how other countries conduct elections peacefully and while people are working and doing their normal thing, I just wonder why ours seem to be different. But I just want to assure you that members of the armed forces are here to support you in this election, to make sure that the election is peaceful. Our drive, our mandate from Mr. President is to ensure that it is peaceful, free, fair and credible. And that is what exactly we’re going to do,” General Musa stated.

The Chief of Defence Staff added, “We are here to also look at it, see the troops and address them critically for them to understand the importance of free, fair and credible elections. Nobody is to take sides. Whoever it is that is popular and the people want, we want the people to be the ones to select who they want, not who is being imposed on them. So at that I can guarantee you that the days of impunity are over. The elections shouldn’t be war. People shouldn’t die because they want go and vote who they want to vote.”
