A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, says the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is still pained about losing the party’s 2023 presidential ticket to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
According to Momodu, the pain of losing the PDP presidential ticket is part of the reasons for the current crisis rocking the major opposition party.
Speaking on Tuesday during an interview with Arise TV, Momodu said Wike was sure about winning the PDP ticket but was left disappointed with the eventual result.
Naija News recalls Atiku won the PDP primary election with 371 votes while Wike, his closest rival, secured 237 votes.
Wike, who was the Rivers State Governor and four other PDP Governors at that time, formed the G5 and openly worked against Atiku in the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking about issues which have continued to plague the PDP after the 2023 elections, Momodu submitted that they expected Wike to get over the defeat but he has not gotten over it.
“The first issue was that he (Wike) lost the primary in 2022 to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and since then, it seems he’s not been able to get over such disappointment.
”Because Wike was so sure that he was going to get the ticket and he was going to be the next president of Nigeria.
”So, he was pained and that’s natural. Anyone who has ever lost anything in life would always feel very bad. So you can’t hold him for that.
“We expected that as months climbed over months, that he would get over it. But, he never got over it,” Momodu said.
